Cecelia's Quotables
Here are some of the most-requested quotes and music lyrics from Cecelia Benson.
Age
(Taken from a Reader's Digest article)
Everyone has been guilty of looking at another's age and thinking,
"Surely I cannot look that old." I'm sure you've done the same. If so,
you may enjoy this short story.
While waiting for my first appointment in the reception room of a new
dentist, I noticed his certificate, which
bore his full name. Suddenly, I remembered that a tall boy with the same
name had been in my high school class some 40 years ago. Upon seeing him,
however, I quickly discarded any such thought.
This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was too old to
have been my classmate.
After he had examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended the local
high school.
"Yes," he replied.
"When did you graduate?" I asked.
He answered, "In 1957."
"Why, you were in my class!" I exclaimed.
He looked at me closely and then asked, "What did you teach?"
You Don't Have To Can To Get To Heaven
Words and music by Cecelia J. Benson
There are cobwebs in the corner, jelly on the floor
My laundry hasn't been caught up since 1984.....
Next door I have a neighbor who cans peaches by the ton,
She made her children's playclothes, she says her laundry's done...
I used to let it bother me, I searched "The Good Book" o'er,
My research is conclusive, I never knew before....
You don't have to can to get to Heaven,
Goodness can't be measured in a jar...
You don't have to sing or sew or wax your garden hose,
You'll make it. Be the best of who you are.
I should be washing windows, I'd rather write a song,
I'd rather hold a child's hand, it won't be little long...
We've got to stop comparing, don't fill your mind with doubt,
Do the things that matter most, do the things that count....
You don't have to can to get to Heaven.
You'll make it, be the best of who you are!
